ENGLISH TRANS:
This article isn’t written by a Super Junior fan.
Because if you were a fan, you would have known better than I do about everything that Siwon and Donghae (and Ivy Chen) think, eat, like, love or hate. You might even notice more about them then they do themselves.
You might have even already heard the things that they have told me.
Although this time I am the only lucky one to be able to have the privilege of privately meeting Siwon and Donghae (and Ivy Chen).
So, as a fan, you definitely have the right to hate, curse me who did not even express any extreme excitement.
Nothing makes sense in this world.
Ivy Chen must have experienced this too. To be forgotten like an extra when together with Siwon and Donghae is the fate of any female lead.

This is for the promotion of Starhub’s “Skip Beat”
Exclusive limit = 15 minutes = Photo taking + Interview = Cover Page
But, HOW. IS. THAT. POSSIBLE.
The task seems ridiculous, but I can’t even find 1% reason to say no. After all we have been trying to get this photoshoot ever since the end of 2011.
Especially when it comes to the hottest top group’s two big idols.
All dignity and principles are thrown into the Singapore River to feed the fish. [Basically to say to abandon all his dignity and principles just to do this interview.]
We can only show you two photographs that were taken on that day.
This is already a great privilege bestowed to us.
And it has to undergo so much difficulty and many levels of obstacles before they can see the light. [The photographs.]
The lighting had already been set up 1 hour before, waiting for the leads to arrive.
Sitting on the sofa? Ivy Chen’s dress is too short? No.
Individual photos? No.
Photo of both the boys together? No.
Strictly only photos of 3 of them together; it was already announced that photos would have to be chosen on the spot.
The photographer’s professional judgement and my semi- professional hobby are not regarded. There are things to consider for each of them.
A: Donghae is not supposed to look like a bad-boy.
B: Ivy Chen has to exude a particular type of feel……
If you think that everything would be settled on that day, you are too naive.
After computer DI, please, email (photos) to receive approval.
Who knows, both the Korean and Taiwanese sides both have their own ideas.
Korea, very efficient, they edited the things that they were unhappy with and emailed the ideal version that they have over.
Taiwan, Ivy Chen’s appointed department expressed what they wanted to be changed, announced that when our side had finished everything, we were to email them for final examination, strict than China’s censorship.
Total of 9mins 43 s of interview time.
There were also many obstacles.
I had prepared 10 questions. Yes, I proudly showed of the kiasu[this has the meaning of being “scared to lose out”] Singaporean instinct. But our local department were also “Singapore”, and had already prepared another list of questions to send to Taiwan.
Eventually, the other side announced that we have to use the first set of questions.
What?
That has got nothing to do with i[the magazine].
Secondly: Anyway, your questions were too hard. [Interviewer’s]
What? Really?
How?
Ask the first set of questions first, then impromptu… someone adviced.
Ah, can meh? [seriously I just translated according to what the guy said]
Even for the Super Junior concert press conference, the questions have to be picked out first and the media is told to only ask those questions word for word.
We can only wait to see how fate unfolds.
As expected, at this time — WHAT ARE THESE QUESTIONS?!
— Because those questions you were talking about were not MY questions and also, those questions were already asked during the press conference.
Explained everything as hard as I could, not leaving any space for rejection. Miraculously passed.
But there was another problem instantly.
The translator said this “I will translate the questions for you, you record down the answers and find the translations yourself, that’s all, there is no time”
Oh ok…
So, in that 9 mins 43 s, I eventually fully understood Ivy Chen’s feelings.
Facing a Gentlemanly type man and a playful handsome boy, not knowing what they are talking about but looking at you so close up, I tell you , other than giving polite nods, there really isn’t much you can do and you won’t even know what kind of expression to give, occasionally my attention would wander off for a few seconds….
[DA FAQ that interviewer took up 1.25 pages to RANT about the korean management and basically how he disliked the interview experience… mother.f]
What is it about Singapore that surprises you?
Ivy: During promotions s{For another movie} I came to here once, at that time I stayed for half a month, after everyone went back after promotions, I stayed on for two weeks as a friend of mine lives in Singapore. I have not been here for ages, I have been doing promotions in China recently, when I come here, there is a … really comfortable feeling, the skies are blue, every where is green, the air is good, its sunny everywhere. [Really? XD I thought it was raining coz of my rain gods] Wa, this place is really too pretty, it lifts one’s spirits up.
Siwon: Everytime I am here this city surprises me.
Donghae: I feel like I have come home.
Other than the language barrier, did Donghae and Siwon experience other difficulties when filming for “Skip Beat”?
Siwon: It is too difficult to be on a diet in Taiwan. It can be anything, the food there is too delicious. So it is difficult to control how much you eat. Ha.
Donghae: When we were filming, it was during Summer, although it was so hot, but I enjoyed the filming experience. Because of the weather, the staff all suffered, but I am really happy that in the end we can see a great product.
To date, do you still have anything about the entertainment industry that you are not used to?
Ivy: Actually it is still ok for me, I feel that the things that happen in the industry, like unfair treatment or that some personal stuff were discovered and gossiped about by others, are things that the other working people are facing as well, it is just that we(entertainment industry) would blow things up. There isn’t anything that I am not used to, just felt that these things are normal.
What is the toughest thing about being an idol?
Ivy: I don’t feel that it is tough, nor do I feel that I am an idol. I hope to be a actor, so image to me isn’t really that important, what is important is that I portray every detail about the character well, only this way can I breakthrough.
Siwon: I chose to be a singer, so I have to accept what comes with it. There isn’t much difficulty that I have to overcome, because from the beginning I have already mentally prepared myself.
Donghae: Even though I feel tired, when I stand on stage at the concert and look at the fans cheer on us and give us support, I can gain strength from it. Because I can feel that the fans gave us so much love and support, this is my happiest moment. [I cry]
Ivy, are there anything unexpected about Siwon and Donghae that surprised you?
They were so attentive that I feel pretty surprised. When we started filming, they kept saying that they want to eat things, I told Donghae that I want to eat seafood pancake, but I thought that he forgot about it, until the day when filming ended, 3 months had passed but he actually brought over a seafood pancake for me. He really remembered this, I am so touched.
Siwon is really attentive and very polite. He would remember the names of everyone on set, in chinese, in another language, and there were so many people coming and going. Every person, even if they were on set for only 3 days, he would still remember, he would say “why didn’t you come the other day?” and even remember that person’s name. Look at how sincerely he treats everyone he works with, so I feel that they are where they are now, because they are really awesome people.
When you are tired and when your spirits are low, what would you tell yourself?
Ivy: If I am feeling tired, I would watch cartoons nonstop and keep looking at colourful things to return to the innocent, simple, happiness of childhood and it would get better.
Siwon: It is not possible for me to be happy all the time, but when I am feeling down, I have good friends and Super Junior members to rely on. Personally, religion helps me a lot.
Donghae: I get lonely easily, so when I am with my members, I can get support, and my loneliness would evaporate. They are my best medicine, HAHA!
Siwon, Donghae who are actors vs Super Junior Siwon, Donghae, what is the difference?
Siwon: There is no big difference. We got started because of Super Junior, everyone’s places might not be the same, but I don’t want any segregation, like if there is something Donghae is good at, I can learn from him. I think we are Super Junior, there is no such thing as “Siwon who is in Super Junior” or “Actor Siwon”.
Donghae: Every member, be it on stage or in films, do their best. On stage, we want to be the best singers; in dramas we want to be the best actors. Our attitude never changed.
In the show, both big idols, Dun He Lian and Bu Po Shang were competitors. Siwon and Donghae, please tell us about your relationship with each other off camera.
Donghae: Actually I didn’t have a good impression of Siwon when he first joined. Slowly after getting to know him, I realised that he is really attentive, and would take care of me, a little like a big brother, and also a little like a dad. Siwon is taller, he is of a better build, sometimes when I perform really well, Siwon would hug me, and it feels like I am being protected. This friendship would be forever. [In chinese its like “I will forever be friends with his friend] I believe that when I have financial problems, Siwon would help me out! HAHA!
Siwon: In life, there are many happy things, there would of course also be upsetting and sad things, when I have problems, I would tell Donghae first. Secrets that only two of us know, even if we were to talk about it overnight, it would not be finished after 3 days.
What do you feel that you have that is stronger than the other?
Siwon: Donghae is my dance teacher. Ha. Actually there isn’t any competitive feelings between us. In the group, if there is any rivalry, it would be constructive. Even if we are having individual activities or performances, it would also be for the whole group.
Donghae: All our members do not wish to compete with Siwon. Who dares to compete with him!
Ivy: Siwon has a helicopter , Donghae does not have a helicopter! [LOLLLL GOOD ONE IVY EHEHEHHEHEHE]
Donghae: (clapping his hands and laughing) We shall all rely on him! All the members all rely on him. I think that it is because he has to carry such a heavy responsibility, that is why he has to train so hard so that his shoulders become wider. HAHAHA! He also has to go learn how to be a business man!
Rich Prince Siwon gave a bitter smile, shaking his head, he looked exasperated his suit seems so press down on him until he can’t lift his shoulders, after that, he laughed with Donghae.
OK, the interview is over!
Both of them clapped really hard, like students, happy to have finished with their assignments. Smiling, nodding, thanking people. They did not forget the manners that big idols should have. They then leisurely walked over to the VIP area where their staff are, talking and laughing allowing people to take photos.
As if I have just finished with a battle, I escaped, I just want to quickly leave the battlefield.
Before escaping, a Taiwanese in-charge said with a friendly smile “sorry, this time round there are many limitations, it can’t be helped, hope you’d understand”. I understand I understand. How can I not know the situation, not be clear of the facts. Especially for this time, Super Junior is the greatest, taking over the world.
Real life struggle. To be media rep. or to be a fan……
Two days later, went to experience SS4 concert.
Watching the Show in the audience, can’t help but scream[he actually said “scream like a ghost, anyhow scream”] with the crazy little fangirls. Wa, really, “How can Siwon be so handsome? How can Donghae be so cute!” Can’t control the excitement.
But… guilty. Especially when I see the fans’ state of excitement and bliss when their idols just walked past them for 5 seconds.
How do I even let others know, that when I was having normal conversation with them face to face earlier, I did not even have any extraordinary feelings.
I finally really experienced Ivy Chen’s feelings.
“When working with them, the people around would feel excited, for me I felt calm. After filming, wa, how can they be so handsome! When I went to their concert, I even held their fanboard! Wa! How can they be so handsome! Actually it is my honour to be able to work with them, after filming with them I would dream every night, and feel that I am actually I am a really lucky girl.”
Super Idols, have to be looked up to.
To be a dream forever, one has to be unreachable [aloof?]
